sometimes I wish I was a different and better person.
this is all the fucking time.
Cooked this recipe for my family today. They were impressed. For once, they didn’t say I’m a disappointment (or some variation on that theme).
So I guess I found a new way to shut them up until I leave: stuff their mouths with food.
Breaking Bad cannot be reduced to a simple “anti-drug show” but the subtext is there…throughout several scenes, anecdotes, side-characters and narrative implications Gilligan showed the futility and complexity of the “war on drugs” policies of the United States and the visceral impact this leaves on people at the fringes: of society, of countries, of states, of families. It’s done quite subtly however as that is not the focus of the show, which is more concerned with the shifting nature of evil, ethics and morality on an individual, rather than societal level (If you want the latter you have to watch The Wire)
Don’t know if either of you are Breaking Bad fans, but the finale of the show aired a short time ago. BrBa has been full of nods to LOST. Everything from plane crashes, purple teddy bears, numbers etc.
So it didn’t go unnoticed when at the end of BrBa, Walter White received a fatal wound in exactly the same spot that Jack did. Even the final screenshot was similar - an aerial view. Missing was a labrador and an eye closing.
I think this striking similarity is worth noting.
Eska is coming for you!
Lesson learned: If you’re going to date crazy water-bending girls, have an escape boat (with a plane on it just in case) at the ready!
I remember working with a law school in which white men heavily dominated the faculty. They used lots of sports metaphors (doing an end run, Monday morning quarterbacking, and so on), with legal jargon thrown in for good measure. I suggested that this was not a particularly welcoming trait in their school, that in fact it was sexist, but they paid little attention. I made my point by speaking for about five minutes in dressmaking terms: putting a dart in here, a gusset there, cutting the budget on the bias so it would be more flexible, using a peplum to hide a course that might be controversial. The women in the room laughed; the men did not find it humorous….Language is power, make no mistake about it. It is used to include and exclude and to keep people and systems in their places.
Official launch trailer for Nosgoth. The Legacy of Kain continues….it only took 10 years!
Miyakejima is a Japanese town on a small island notorious for volcanic activity. After a devastating volcano eruption in 1940, the island was temporarily evacuated. When people were allowed back, everyone was required to wear gas masks, as the high levels of sulfur leaking from the ground made the very air around them dangerous.
Even though to this day the people of this island are required to carry gas masks with them wherever they go, they don’t need them. If something was to happen, sirens would go off warning the people to put on their masks.
"are you my mummy?"
